I think the biggest barrier to entrepreneurs’ success is their ego. Hear me out:

Todd Abrams, CEO and Co-Founder of ICON Meals shared this opinion on our podcast this week. He's seen countless entrepreneurs stumble because they're too tied to their original vision. They push forward relentlessly, even when the signs are clear that it's time to pivot.

But adaptability is the name of the game. Clinging to a plan that's not working isn't noble - it's foolish. The best entrepreneurs know when to shift gears and try a new approach.

It's not about giving up on your dreams. It's about recognizing that there might be a better way to achieve them. Because at the end of the day, success requires you to be flexible, resilient, and ready to seize opportunity wherever it arises.

How a single fortune cookie led to Morning Brew’s $75 million acquisition:

In 2017, Austin Rief was stuck in a grueling investment banking internship, spending 100-hour weeks on work he didn't care about.

On July 3rd, while everyone else was out celebrating, he was alone in the office. So he ordered Chinese food and decided to open his two fortune cookies desperately looking for a sign.

Because who wouldn't want to put their life in the hands of a message in a cookie?

One of the messages inside read, "A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining."

That simple fortune hit him hard, reinforcing what he already knew deep down—banking wasn't his future.

Within 15 minutes, Austin texted his co-founder, Alex Lieberman to figure out how he could work on Morning Brew full-time.

Three years later Morning Brew was acquired by Business Insider for $75 million.

This small, seemingly insignificant moment turned out to be a pivotal point in both Austin's and Morning Brew’s life.

At OpenFortune 🥠, we deeply understand the power of those moments and it’s an honor to help our clients create them every day.
