Highlights
OPINIONS IN THIS POST ARE MY OWN
Excellent event organized by ARCA Fondi SGR for its 40-years anniversary at Università Bocconi
First, this event takes place during a peculiar time of turbulence when financial institutions globally are especially called to show strong leadership and truly outstanding values. Once during my tenure at the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, I addressed the largest domestic pension funds on #investments by quoting a famous passage: “Good trees give good fruits; bad trees give bad fruits.” I believe that leadership and values are the key elements that part the good from the bad trees when challenges arise. Superior leadership and great values vis-a-vis our clients, employees, shareholders and stakeholders are the reasons why every time I sit with my colleagues at an ARCA Fondi SGR board meeting I feel so proud. Thanks to the board: Ugo Loeser Giuseppe Lusignani Paola Bergamaschi Dott. Edoardo Rossini @Paolo Guzzetti Rita Laura D'Ecclesia A special thank to Ugo Loeser and Giuseppe Lusignani for their inspiring leadership made of the strong vision, the consistent and coherent strategy and the outstanding communication. Thanks to the whole ARCA Fondi SGR team for pursuing excellence and keep up the great work! CC: #simonebinismaghi #albertozorzi
Second, on Giuseppe Lusignani ‘s speech: it was extremely powerful to hear about the Italian asset management industry history and the constitutional root the Country reserves to “savings and pension money” and therefore indirectly to the duties of care, diligence and superior conduct that bound anyone in our industry. It made me reflect and again feel so proud. Thanks Giuseppe Lusignani for reminding us all what point on the horizon we should always keep the eye on: this is what leaders are for.
Last but not least, thanks to the speakers: Francesco Billari #valentinabosetti #giammarcoottaviano #donatomasciandaro Ugo Loeser…and of course the moderator Andrea Cabrini. Learning from these prime minds about our society challenges ahead and how these will shape the asset management industry was incredible.
Two final notes of personal color:
#1 It was pretty amazing to sit next to #VittorioCoda after all these years. While teaching us at Università Bocconi, he was also ARCA Fondi SGR chairman. Learning strategy from him was a honor - I bring the values he taught us back then to my everyday professional life. Looking back, thanks to Università Bocconi for shaping #leaders.
#2 A special hug to #chenlichtenstein whom I pulled an allnighter while at Goldman Sachs for the ARCA Fondi SGR IPO pitch! Even if working together nearly killed me… he - a former Israeli parachuter - is the one who taught me that “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” That pitch process just happened to be a very important moment of learning in my life and from a special mentor whose short and to the point remarks I will always carry in my heart.
On May 25, 2022 I attended the Tribute in Memory of Alberto Alesina at @unibocconi.
https://lnkd.in/ewXrCQz6
The debate on Economic Policy in an Age of Uncertainty with Mario Draghi, Larry Summers and Silvana Tenreyro moderated by Lionel Barber was spectacular and it was a great way to remember him.
It’s great that @unibocconi is naming a seminar room after him, as seminar rooms are the places where ideas are championed and defended, where innovation takes place.
The whole event was moving.
Francesco Giavazzi mentioned one by one the young economists whose minds Alberto fostered in the last 9 years alone. The list was long. They are all off to great careers at Ivy League Universities or at Central Banks.
I met Alberto in 2013 and he made the difference also in my career and in the making of Action Institute
This is the article I wrote on @ilfoglio on May 25, 2020 - exactly 2 years before the Tribute took place - https://lnkd.in/eYqRB4zY
Just thinking that he passed away, still breaks my heart. I will always be thankful for the example of superior intellectual rigor he has been to me.
