Caroline's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology and Society from Cornell University, a Master’s Degree in Adolescent Science Education from Pace University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Molecular Biology from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, and a Regents Diploma with Advanced Distinction from Massapequa High School.
Throughout her career, Caroline has held various key positions in reputable organizations, including roles such as UFT/DOE Peer Collaborative Teacher at the NYC Department of Education, Content Developer at InnerOrbit, UFT/DOE Model Teacher at NYC Department of Education, and Early Career Fellow at Math for America. This fall, my team and I will tackle this question as I've been selected to facilitate a Professional Learning Team on Women in Education Leadership at Math for America! ✨
My course will focus on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Jennie Weiner and Dr. Monica Higgins, particularly their book Education Lead(her)ship: Advancing Women in K-12 Administration (linked below).
In their book, Dr. Weiner and Dr. Higgins use diverse stories as case studies to illustrate how the devaluation of "feminine work," the glass cliff phenomenon, and the male-centric view of effective leadership intersect and perpetuate bias in education leadership. As a #teacherleader and #instructionalcoach, I recognize myself and my colleagues in these all-too-familiar narratives.
I'm eager to empower #teacherleaders across New York City as we strive to catalyze change and disrupt the status quo that systematically excludes women from #educationleadership. 📣
