Professor, Violence Prevention for Young People

M. Catherine Maternowska, a seasoned anthropologist, author, and university instructor, possesses over 27 years of extensive global experience in socio-medical research, evaluation, and program management.

Specializing in child protection, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence policy, Dr. Maternowska currently co-Directs the End Violence Lab at the University of Edinburgh, overseeing innovative initiatives spanning across 40 countries worldwide.

Throughout her illustrious career, she has collaborated with major funding institutions like The Population Council, The Gates Foundation, and The Nike Foundation, making significant contributions to the field of global health.

Dr. Maternowska's academic journey includes a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan, a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University, and a BsC in Social Geography from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

Having held key positions at prestigious organizations like the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, UNICEF, and the International Centre for Reproductive Health in Kenya, she has established herself as a distinguished authority in mixed methodologies, program design, and monitoring & evaluation.

Her research and advocacy have led to impactful child-friendly policies, response plans, and programs in numerous countries, shaping national programs and policies for the betterment of child protection systems globally.
