Charles Hsuen, a seasoned radio broadcaster with over 30 years of experience, is renowned for hosting three programs in the Halifax Regional Municipality. His shows feature music spanning from the 1920s to contemporary Adult Easy Listening tunes, showcasing his diverse musical taste.
Starting his broadcasting journey in Halifax, Charles has been a prominent broadcaster on Seaside FM 105.9 and CKDU FM 88.1. With a passion for English language proficiency, he utilized broadcasting as a means to enhance his language skills.
Born in Toronto in 1975, Charles initially communicated in three Chinese dialects. Transition to English in primary school was challenging, but he embraced the language by delving into news articles, jazz music, and conducting interviews.
His dedication to broadcasting led him to establish the 'Charles Tape Series' and 'An Evening with Charles Hsuen' on CQHS, showcasing his interview and programming skills. He pursued formal education in Radio and Television Broadcasting at Ryerson Polytechnic University, where he was among the pioneers to broadcast on Spirit One, Ryerson's Internet Radio service.
After facing job loss post September 11th, Charles relocated to Halifax for a fresh start. In 2001, his program found its way to CKDU FM and Seaside FM, where he continues to enthrall listeners with his engaging broadcasts.
Beyond his broadcasting career, Charles currently serves as a Programs Administrator at Dalhousie University's Postgraduate Medical Education Department. His extensive professional journey also includes roles as Chief Invigilator at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Website Content Manager at Dalhousie University.
Charles's rich professional background encompasses diverse roles in organizations such as Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project, Accesible Media Inc., and various managerial positions. His versatile skill set extends to acting, narrating, producing, and directing, evident in various video projects.
