Did you know we’re doing all our Election coverage by hand?!

‘Partly inspired by a ‘Broken Britain’ and in direct response to the rise of AI generative imagery and fake news, the newspaper’s election coverage this year is made with purposely imperfect paper cuttings.’

Huge thanks to Jenny Brewer at It’s Nice That for featuring our process.

I was interviewed by arts and culture magazine SpringTide Magazine — For their issue on 'Watching and Learning' through generations. ↓ ‘Chris Clarke, Editorial Creative Director of the Guardian, not only answered burning questions of our art directors, but also allowed us to understand that what we do is just another learning for the next thing we create, and somehow we have to keep going at it for a better change, not only for ourselves but for others.’ Mitali Joshi  ↓ ‘When we were given the opportunity to interview Chris Clarke, the excitement was palpable. We felt a sense of responsibility to ask the questions that have been lingering in our minds. The questions that revolve around finding a creative balance between the old and the new, nurturing true passion without self-sabotage, and effecting change through design even when the world might not be ready for it.

Currently serving as the Editorial Creative Director of The Guardian, Chris exemplifies how modern design thinking can harmoniously coexist with traditional approaches.

Moreover, he is a co-founder of RoomFifty, an ethical, diverse and affordable art gallery, as well as MakeRoom, the pioneering e-commerce and creative fulfilment service for artists. In addition to his professional endeavours, Chris frequently collaborates with charities, studios and arts organisations, using his typographic graphic art to make a positive impact.

During our interview, Chris reflected on his journey into the world of design, which funnily began with creating fake IDs. He now dedicates himself to providing a platform that fosters equity among creatives and leverages design for social change — a purpose he attributes to his education. As we witness a man constantly revolutionising the impact of design in various ways, it is both inspiring and humbling to recognize the significance of our daily actions.’ ↓ A huge thank you to Mitali for reaching out and taking the time to speak with me.
