I help founders and their ecosystems grow

Some news. I’m moving on from my role as MD at IgniteNI later this month.

The last 4 years have been nothing short of monumental. I'm incredibly privileged to have worked with over 200 remarkable founders and I'm so proud of their progress. I'm using this moment to share my admiration for them.

These founders are world-class. The data proves that these founders are some of the best in Europe. Mentors have said IgniteNI teams are better than the top-tier European and US accelerators that they have been involved in, and investors have said these founders are EXACTLY the type they want to find.

Building a startup is hard and failure is a crucial part of the success of any ecosystem. We need to embrace it. It's the support, belief, optimism, and ambition, from both within this community, and outside of it, that has been key to accelerating these founders.

The pandemic changed everything for these teams and when much of the world stopped, they continued. This was not easy. It was their adaptability in the face of failure that gets me excited for the future.

My proudest moments can’t be measured by data. It’s not the £44.7M that has been raised so far (https://lnkd.in/dU8BGGRX), the exits, the successes but the people behind it. Healthy communities are founder-led. I’m so proud of how founders are supporting each other, learning, and sharing. It's this flywheel that is ultimately scalable. As Brad Feld wisely said, "leaders of startup communities have to be entrepreneurs."

Thank you. We’ve felt the generosity of support from 1000s of investors, mentors and partners, who have helped us run over 10,000 sessions. They’ve selflessly adopted the #givefirst ethos and provided the best examples for our founders to learn from.

I'm incredibly thankful to have spent the last 4 years working with a team of people that deeply care about founders, Ian Browne, Victoria Coulter, Kate Nutt, Tristan Watson, as well as Martin Adair and the team at Invest Northern Ireland and our incredible EIRs Jo York (now North East MD!), Joanna Montgomery, Paul Smith OBE, Martin McFadden and Maeve Kneafsey.

I’ve loved my role as MD. I’ll continue to support Ignite Accelerator, the teams as an EIR, and always advocate for the best for founders.

Lastly, a message for founders,

Keep learning. Focus on customers. Obsess the problem. Strive for simplicity. Optimise for speed. Communication is everything. Build relationships. Keep talking about what success looks like. Take care of yourself. You're the most exciting thing about the future.

What matters most, is what you do next ❤️

We are looking for the ultimate iOS engineer to become Brewbot's Head of Mobile.

Brewbot has 28 people now working on beer brewing robots. An inspirational team of designers, developers, brewers from the likes of Tesla, Zero Motorcycles, IDEO, and Dyson. As well as our studio, electronic and mechanical engineering labs we naturally have a brewery not to mention the bar (er UX lab) on the bottom floor of our Belfast HQ with 160 different beers.
