Happy Friday! Found this old leadership training video at a yard sale the other day. Might still have relevance in HR meetings. #CoreValues
"No one knows where anyone is anymore." That's what a fellow producer told me today.
We were talking about all the different ways the public consumed the DNC...the myriad of ways to watch on YouTube, Cable, and Streaming Platforms all offering different camera angles, commentary, and interruptions. (At one point, my wife and I flipped from Hulu to Youtube when ABC decided to cut to commercial smack-dab in the middle of a highly anticipated speech!)
As linear broadcast watching gets farther away in the rear view mirror and streamers use ads as punishments for not paying a premium subscription, it's getting harder to reach people in general, let alone the ones you want.
The path to least resistance is also the most disruptive: produce your own entertainment.
Instead of interrupting people's favorite stories, BE their favorite stories.
There is always wide open space here, albeit one that requires the hard work of taste-making and world-building, serving up Culture vs. churning out more "content"...but it's available for anyone who wants to make the shift from storyselling to storytelling...which can lead to the thing we ALL actually want... storyCHANGING.
Make shows. Not ads.
