Claire Somerville

Claire Somerville is an accomplished anthropologist renowned for her work in global health and gender studies.

With a particular interest in fostering cross-sector collaborations, she excels at bridging ideas across various disciplines and sectors, employing multi-method approaches to identify synergies and drive innovation in research and teaching.

Apart from her academic endeavors, Claire holds a passion for activities related to lakes, mountains, cross-country skiing, walking, Early Modern English literature, culture, history, theatre, and vegetable gardening.

Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, a Master of Arts in Medical Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, a First-Class Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex, and a Master's degree in Shakespeare Studies from King's College London.

Throughout her career, Claire has held various significant roles, such as being a Lecturer and Researcher in Medical Anthropology and Gender, as well as the Executive Director at the Gender Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

She also contributed as a Committee Member for Anthropology of Policy and Practice at the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, and as a Lecturer and Researcher in Global Health, Gender, and Development Studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

Previously, Claire served as a Senior Social Scientist and Anthropology Research Fellow in Health Tech & Aging at Trinity College Dublin, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Primary Care & Public Health at Queen Mary University of London, and a Lecturer in Transdisciplinary Health Sciences & Medical Anthropology at the University of Newcastle.

Additionally, from 2009 to 2018, she acted as a Research Expert outside academia at ICF, showcasing her diverse and extensive involvement in both academic and non-academic settings.
