Clarence Wooten is a serial tech entrepreneur currently serving as Director and Entrepreneur in Residence at X, the moonshot factory (formerly known as Google X), a position he has held since August 2021.1 In this role, he leads talented teams in creating radical new technologies to solve some of the world's hardest problems.4

Wooten is notable for being the only African-American to have founded, scaled, and led two Internet startups to successful acquisitions by publicly traded companies while serving as CEO.4 These acquisitions include:

  1. ImageCafe, sold to Network Solutions [Nasdaq: NSOL] for $23 million in 1999, just seven months after launch.24
  2. Progressly, acquired by Box [NYSE: BOX] in 2018.4

Throughout his career, Wooten has founded and led numerous tech startups, including:

  • Groupsite (formerly CollectiveX), where he serves as Executive Chairman and Founder since 2005.3
  • Revitalize Venture Studio, where he is Founder & General Partner.1

Wooten has received several honors, including:

He graduated magna cum laude with degrees in Business Management from Johns Hopkins' Carey Business School and Computer-Aided Design for Architecture & Engineering from the Community College of Baltimore County.4
