Highlights
Over the past few months, I’ve shared some steps the Dribbble team has taken to maximize the number of users searching, interacting, and transacting through the platform.
Recently, we instituted stricter moderation policies and doubled the size of our moderation team in order to eliminate low-value content from the website that can distract from authentic, compelling design work and diminish the user experience.
More detail here: https://lnkd.in/eKsJQWsC
Some notable results from July:
- The number of designer applications that were rejected by moderators increased by 525% Y/Y.
- The number of uploads that were suspended by moderators increased by 415% Y/Y.
- The number of users that were suspended by moderators increased by 77% Y/Y.
- While the number of messages received by users increased by 200%, the spam rate for messages decreased by 50% Y/Y.
Ultimately, we expect these measures to improve the signal-to-noise ratio on Dribbble and stimulate more substantive engagement between users.
Search is critical to Dribbble’s strategy and work is already underway to improve our search UI/UX, ranking algorithms, infrastructure, and human moderation.
Yesterday, we shared some results from a recent update to our search algorithm: https://lnkd.in/gwDne4m9
The tldr is that the new algorithm outperformed the previous across the most important indicators of search relevance including clicks, likes, and saves. That said, we made a relevance/diversity tradeoff that we’ll need to address eventually.
Over one million distinct users place at least one search on Dribbble every single day which means our search A/B tests produce (statistically significant) results very quickly. We’re leaning into this to rapidly improve search relevance and, in turn, the entire user experience.
