This week, the Coalition for GSP led a letter signed by over 300 American companies and associations to the Senate Finance Committee urging GSP renewal: https://lnkd.in/egwURpWq

The vast majority of signers are small businesses, though companies of all sizes are struggling due to billions of dollars in tariffs payments associated with GSP expiration.

Sadly, one signer that has paid over $10 million in extra tariffs due to GSP expiration had to lay off 20% of its corporate employees just last week. Another has laid off 75% of its workers and is preparing to shut down completely. Multiple signers have taken out loans against their homes to pay tariffs -- loans that cannot be repaid without GSP renewal and refunds.

I really appreciate everyone that signed onto the letter. If you care about GSP and want to get more engaged in the Coalition's efforts, please let me know.

On Wednesday, the Coalition for GSP hosted 50+ advocates from around the country to urge Congress to #renewGSP. Over the course of the day, we met with over 70 House and Senate offices to share how GSP expiration is raising costs for American companies and consumers, stalling job-creating investments, and making Chinese exporters (even) more competitive than potential suppliers in GSP countries like Indonesia, Thailand, and Brazil.

Members of Congress and staff expressed their support for GSP renewal -- and in some cases were outright apologetic for the continued lapse -- which now has last 3+ years and cost well over $3.5 billion. As some participants were more comfortable saying than others, it's a congressional derection of duty to let GSP remain expired, despite last passing the House by a vote of 400-2.

The day went off without a hitch thanks to the hard work of Chauncey Seeger and Sam Gause at Monument Advocacy, and our volunteer teams leaders: Jon Gold, Blake Harden, Joseph O'Donnell, Brian Callahan, Gabrielle Reardon, Mattie Amagai, Michael Anderson, Scott Jarvis, Julie Sutton, and Dwayne Roark.

And of course: all the attendees who took time away from their businesses and families to travel to DC and the Members of Congress and staff who make time in their busy schedules to meet with constituents about the urgent need to renew GSP and refund tariffs paid ASAP.
