Dana R. Fisher is a distinguished academic and environmental sociologist currently serving as the Director of the Center for Environment, Community, & Equity and as a Professor in the School of International Service at American University. She also holds the position of Non-Resident Senior Fellow in the Governance Program at the Brookings Institution and chairs the Political Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association.

Her research extensively covers themes such as democracy, civic engagement, activism, and climate politics. Among her ongoing projects are investigations into how political elites respond to climate change, the incorporation of climate and justice initiatives in nationally-coordinated service corps programs in the US, and pathways to engaging in activism around climate change and systemic racism.

As a prolific author, Dana R. Fisher has penned over eighty research papers and book chapters and is the author of seven books, including 'Saving Ourselves: From Climate Shocks to Climate Action,' published by Columbia University Press in 2024. She has contributed as an author for Working Group 3 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Sixth Assessment Review (IPCC AR6), focusing on citizen engagement and civic activism.

Dana R. Fisher is a well-known figure in the media landscape, having made appearances on reputable platforms such as ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, PBS Newshour, NPR, CBC, and the BBC. Her writings have been featured in prominent publications like the Washington Post, Slate, TIME Magazine, Politico, the Nation, and the American Prospect.

She received her Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies and Environmental Studies from Princeton University. Prior to her current roles, she held positions as a Professor at the University of Maryland, Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, Associate Professor of Sociology at Columbia University, and Assistant Professor of Sociology at Columbia University.
