Danny Brown was the Director of Enterprise Applications at Carleton University until his untimely passing on January 8, 2024 at the age of 50.1 He had a long and impactful career at Carleton, joining the university in 2005 as the first manager of web services.1 Throughout his tenure, Danny made significant contributions to Carleton's digital presence, including building and implementing a coherent web strategy, developing the university's first smartphone app, and playing a crucial role in the transition to online learning during the pandemic.1
Danny was a graduate of both Carleton University and Algonquin College.1 He was known for his natural leadership, collaborative approach, and technical expertise. His work at Carleton spanned nearly two decades, during which he directed web strategy, built the first employee intranet, and served as Director of Enterprise Applications for the last five years of his career.1
In recognition of his outstanding service and embodiment of Service Excellence Standards, Danny was posthumously awarded the Honorary Service Excellence Award by Carleton University in 2023.2 This prestigious award is rarely given, with Danny being only the fourth recipient in its history.2
Outside of his professional life, Danny was a devoted family man, survived by his wife Kristin, son Jake, and extended family.1 He was remembered for his gentle nature, determination, loyalty, creativity, and sense of humor.1
