Danyel Smith is an accomplished author, award-winning journalist, and producer. She is best known for creating and hosting the Spotify-exclusive Black Girl Songbook, a podcast that celebrates black women in music.

With a diverse educational background including studies at Parsons School of Design, Northwestern University, University of California - Berkeley, and St Mary's Academy, Danyel has honed her skills in creative writing and journalism.

Throughout her career, Danyel has held key positions in prestigious organizations such as ESPN, where she served as a senior producer and editor. She was also a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University and cofounded the groundbreaking hardcover culture magazine, HRDCVR.

Danyel's writing has been featured in reputable publications like NPR, The California Sunday Magazine, The New Yorker, Teen Vogue, and The New York Times. She has held editorial roles at Billboard, Time Inc., and Vibe, where she served as editor-in-chief.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Danyel is also a successful author with two novels to her name: 'More Like Wrestling' (2003) and 'Bliss' (2005). Danyel resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Elliott Wilson, and continues to make a significant impact on the media industry.
