Happy New Year.

As we fire up our laptops to begin working on our 2024 agendas, I am sharing some data to show that sustainability and social equity remain top business issues.

The company I lead, 3BL, partners with companies and NGOs to raise awareness of their environmental, social and governance (ESG) action. Our network carried more than 7,000 stories from purpose-driven brands in 2023. As ESG became more politicized in red and blue states, we saw a few categories of news recede while others accelerated.

In 3BL's highest volume content category, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), we saw a slippage of 2.9 percent after three years of double-digit growth.

In contrast, companies talked more about employee programs in 2023, such as volunteerism and community engagement (up 7 percent); philanthropy and cause initiatives (up 2.8 percent); and education (up 9 percent).

Corporate communications practitioners who publish content with 3BL are privy to analytics showing which content was viewed and shared the most by key stakeholders -- and which content fell flat. The top three categories with the highest engagement were: Innovation & Technology; Research, Reports and Publications; and Sustainable Finance & Socially Responsible Investment.

If you are not yet receiving the daily 3BL News Alert in your inbox, I encourage you to subscribe. Companies are continuing to communicate about sustainability and impact, and a quick glance at logos and headlines can tell you a lot about your peers, competitors, supply chain partners and prospective partners. https://lnkd.in/ez2MRaG9
