Highlights
The Annual Summer research Conference at UC San Diego continues to grow in numbers, scope, and influence. This year, the Undergraduate Research Hub (URH) was proud to host 400+ participants representing 52 colleges and universities and presenting work from all academic fields. Held on August 14th and 15th, the Conference showcased the exciting work of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. They demonstrated unlimited academic potential. Congratulations to them. Thanks to their mentors and administrative supporters. Special thanks to Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons, Vice Chancellor Alysson Satterlund, and Prof. Sonya Neal for inspiring our presenters. And endless thanks to the URH staff and our Summer Research Program partners for coordinating the event.
If 200 students participated, was it really a Mini-Conference? That's what we called it, and we are sticking to it. Last week, our Summer Research Program students took a morning away from their workstations to attend sessions on maximizing the mentor-mentee relationship, time management, critical reading of academic articles, financial literacy, conducting ethical research, and preparing for post-baccalaureate degree attainment. Interim Dean of the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Judy Kim led this last overflow session. The Mini-Conference with new breakout sessions returns at the end of this month, and the Big One, the Annual Summer Research Conference at UC San Diego, takes place August 14-15 at the Price Center. These students and many others take their turn as presenters then. Public welcome. See you there.
