David DeVasto

Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory/Composition at Elmhurst College

David DeVasto is an accomplished music professional with a wide range of experience in composition, piano performance, teaching, and music theory.

With a background in B.M, M.M, and Ph.D. in Music Composition from well-known institutions, including Webster University, University of Louisville, and University of Iowa, David brings a strong academic foundation to his work.

He has held various teaching positions at Elmhurst College, Lindenwood University, McKendree University, The University of Iowa, and St. Louis Community College, highlighting his commitment to education.

David's expertise spans composition and arranging, piano performance, classroom and private instruction, electronic media, ensemble conducting, media collaboration, musical direction, and event organization.

As a composer, he has created music across genres such as contemporary concert, jazz, electro-acoustic, musical theatre, and popular styles, showcasing his versatility and creativity.

In addition to his teaching roles, David is an adept jazz pianist, performing both as a solo artist and with various ensembles, and a skilled studio recording artist.

His immediate goal is to teach music composition and theory full-time while continuing his conference presentations and performance opportunities.
