David Hsu

David Hsu is a prominent figure in the field of computer science, currently serving as a Provost's Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is also the founding director of the NUS Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (NUSAIL) and the director of the Smart Systems Institute.123

Hsu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University.12 His research focuses on robotics, artificial intelligence, and computational biology, with specific interests in robot planning and learning under uncertainty, decision-making, and human-robot collaboration.124

Throughout his career, Hsu has been involved in various leadership roles and has chaired several major international robotics conferences. He is an IEEE Fellow and has served on editorial boards for journals such as IEEE Transactions on Robotics and the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research.14 His work has been recognized with multiple international awards, including the Test of Time Award at Robotics: Science & Systems (RSS) in 2021.24
