Highlights
The word “Ironic” or in another tense “Ironically” is used in what I’d say is 98% completely the wrong context or appropriate word which is usually coincidence.
Just out of my own curiosity and this is not a test (an exercise if you will but you can’t look up definitions or examples) of what irony or an ironic situation you’ve encountered or dealt with as I’m working on something as a side project.
The first example provided to me was in 7th grade (1985) when so many people suffered from intense fears of flying. My mother was one of them. And to be honest crashing wasn’t even necessarily the de facto fear but we will use in this case. So god forbid someone has a fear of dying in a plane crash and lo and behold that is the cause of demise. Not ironic in the slightest bc what they were most afraid of is what happened.
But let’s throw a wrench into it. Same fear but in a random act of bad timing you lean forward in your seat to get a book from your bag and the person directly in front of you reclines and the seat back crashes down on you and unfortunately breaks your neck/severs spinal cord and you meet your demise. That my friends is irony plain and simple.
Just curious here but when first meeting someone or engaging with them at another time would you say the handshake tells you almost all you need to know about that individual?
