📈 HOW TO BECOME DECISIVE - a practical guide to making better decisions

Becoming an effective decision maker is a challenging yet rewarding journey, crucial for steering both our personal and professional lives towards success.

🤔The Challenge: Often, decision-making feels like navigating a complex labyrinth. With a myriad of variables and unpredictable outcomes, it's easy to find ourselves at a crossroads, weighed down by indecision.

🧪The Solution: My strategy involves breaking down monumental decisions into smaller, manageable experiments. It's about testing hypotheses with minimal risk and gathering valuable insights before making significant commitments.

ℹ️ Useful Examples:

  • Do you have the big start-up idea? start with a simple landing page and talk to your target audience before committing to build a full product.

  • Looking for a co-founder? hire the candidate as a freelancer and see how you work together first.

  • Looking to create longer form content? create pilots before investing lots of time into your idea. Eg write a linkedin / X post before writing the article / video (this post may turn into a video, let me know if you'd like to see it!)

🔍 Practical Application:

1.Define: Identify your decision, note down your hypotheses and assumptions, and clarify which outcome would support which decision.

  1. Design: Specify your methods for data collection and analysis - think of how you could gather the most relevant data with relatively low investment.

  2. Implement the experiment: do it!

  3. Detach and Decide: Critically important is the ability to detach from outcomes. If the feedback is not favourable, be ready to adapt or pivot without letting ego or attachment cloud your judgment. Will you change direction or invest more into the current direction? pivot or increment?

TL;DR: Embrace the 'small bet' strategy for decision-making. Break down big decisions into smaller experiments to gain real insights with minimal risk. This approach helps build confidence in your decisions, guided by tangible evidence rather than speculation.
