Back Harvard Business School for the afternoon talking with awesome #entrepreneurs in Prof Randy Cohen's Field Y class was exciting, fun, and very interesting. I was happy to share insights from my book First Pitch: Winning Money, Mentors and More for Your Startup with the class and help prepare them for next week's big pitch day.

I noticed, not for the first time, how many MBAs struggle with storytelling, yet it's an important part of a first pitch - trying to engage people's minds AND hearts with what you are building. It's not analytical, so they worry that it's not valued by investors. But what I've seen is that, at the earliest stages, being a good storyteller can do so much to help communicate your vision and your character to your audience (and investors). Your stories bring to life how this problem that you want to solve with your #startup has affected you or people you care about, and they make YOU (and your pitch) memorable because stories make people feel something. And isn't that one of the most important parts of a first pitch?
