Highlights
In 1993, Vernor Vinge proposed that within thirty years, we would have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era would be ended.
While it didn't happen within the thirty years from the publication of that article, we are certainly on the way to get there and achieve singularity through AGI.
One particular thought that occurred to me as I was going through that article again is that we might have to stop using the Turing test as the baseline to measure computer intelligence. For those that do not know, Turing test is measuring human ability to discern whether a computer is or is not a human.
True autonomy will require the systems to operate on their own, without any human guidance. As humans will not be involved in the process, it doesn't seem correct that we are stacking these machines up against our own intelligence. As the superintelligence is around the corner, should we maybe start using a reverse Turing test where a computer decides whether a human is interesting enough to be considered intelligent?
Does it sound too dystopian? What are your thoughts on how we will measure superintelligence?
