Dontae's educational background includes a Master of Arts in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago, a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Government from Howard University, and studies in Pobreza e Desigualdade da Economia at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo.

Throughout his career, Dontae has held various roles such as Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, Legal Intern at the Center for Responsible Lending, Fellow at the Center for the Study of the Presidency & Congress (CSPC), Legislative Intern at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, HBCU All-Star with the White House at the U.S. Department of Education, South Africa Fellow at the Young Africana Leadership Initiative, Political Fellow at the Will Jawando Campaign for Congress, Executive President of the College of Arts & Sciences Student Council at Howard University, Intern at the African American Mayors Association, and Staff Assistant for Rep. Steve Womack (AR-3) at the U.S. House of Representatives.
