Meta career moment when the tool I used during my early days of content marketing (and link building specifically) is now sharing a tool that I helped build as one of the best tools for link building! Shoutout to Vince Nero for including Siege Media. https://lnkd.in/gEitCYuu

983 “best software” match phrase keyword variants with cumulative monthly search volumes of 460K+ ranking on page one were updated within the last six months, on average.

This means your "best x software" pages should be updated 2x per year, sometimes even more frequently. Keyword difficulty is positively correlated with more frequent updates, meaning higher KD = faster content decay.

Additionally, 97.7% of the SERPs for "best software" keywords featured dates.

I'm super proud of this tool I built for our clients that automatically analyzes the freshness of a given keyword's SERP, recommending the ideal update frequency to be competitive consistently.

We thought this same tool would be useful to analyze wider industry trends, and our results from “best software” is just one example of some of the macro insights we uncovered.

Full data study in the works, but Ross and I discussed four recent content marketing tests we've learned from in our most recent podcast. Check it out!
