Highlights
Last week, I was involved with the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council alongside the esteemed Stanford Alumni Council Team. Together, we've embarked on a mission to think of more ways to raise awareness and offer fresh perspectives on the stunning 400-mile trail network around the Bay Area, stretching from San Francisco, Sonoma, Berkeley, Fremont, Napa to Silicon Valley, and more. From a one-day family hike (letting kids be away from screens a little bit) to an epic weekend adventure or weeks or months of an amazing journey.
Being part of this initiative has been an incredible experience. Not only have we explored breathtaking landscapes and connected with fellow enthusiasts, but we've also realized the immense importance of these trails to communities and to individual mental health. They serve as avenues for recreation, connection with nature, and opportunities for personal growth.
As I reflect on this experience, I keep thinking about how to bring these learnings back to my roots in Brazil. The idea of fostering similar trail networks resonates deeply, knowing the transformative impact they can have in our beautiful places. Some are already being enjoyed, like "Caminho da Fé" from Aguas da Prata to Aparecida.
Thanks to Stanford University Graduate School of Business and Bay Area Ridge Trail Council for the opportunity...Nastasha Everheart Marie Sayles

As a long-time enthusiast of Disney and its "Disney way"(great book) of entertaining, informing, and inspiring people, I've always been drawn to the magic they create through their films, brands, and theme parks. Two books have deepened my admiration even further: "Creativity Inc", written by Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios and president of #Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, delves into the management and corporate culture that made Pixar one of the most successful animation studios in history. "The Ride of a Life Time", authored by Bob Iger himself, not only recounts his journey but also explores strategy, alignment, coherence, resilience, challenges, and innovation. It's an inspiring read for leaders across industries, not just entertainment. It had a profound impact on me and inspired me a lot during my time at #Globo. Iger's tenure at #Disney faced significant challenges (just like many companies), especially during the pandemic, with closed parks, canceled cruises, stalled studios, and empty cinemas. But post-pandemic, Iger returned and initiated a comeback strategy. Of course, pleasing everyone is impossible, right? Yesterday, I came across a news piece discussing an issue widely debated during my time at Stanford's Executive Program (SEP) – Shareholder Activism. https://lnkd.in/gmbbThHi This model sees investors heavily investing in shares and board seats to amplify their voting power and influence the company's direction, structure, and/or governance. In Disney's case, it seems this tactic didn't work (at least for now), and Iger stands firm. In his words, "With the distracting proxy contest now behind us, we're eager to focus 100% of our attention on our most important priorities: growth and value creation for our shareholders and creative excellence for our consumers."
It's very good to hear him prioritize value creation and growth. Looks like there's already enough material for a second book. Can't wait for it!
