4 years ago, Amazon, a company I always revered for their customer centric focus and incredible ability to scale, announced that their next HQ would be in DC. I knew I had to throw my hat in the ring and try to make it work. I navigated a 2 hour commute (each way!), a difficult panel of interviews, turned down a promotion at my current job and finally had the opportunity to learn how to do things the "Amazon way".
Going into Amazon, my goal was to learn how to build for scale, delight customers and experience different lines of business. With the help of some great mentors and coworkers (and a global pandemic that eliminated that lengthy commute), I'm happy to say I achieved that goal. I was fortunate to contribute to the launch of three exciting new features: Alexa Sound Detection Routines, Alexa Symptom Checker, and Amazon Clinic.
I decided to leave Amazon in early December, and I've waited to make this post because I wanted to make sure I got some time off to spend with friends and family before starting the job search.
I'm not sure yet what's next for me, but if you or someone you know is looking for a passionate engineering leader to solve some hard problems, let's talk! Depending on the organization and company culture, I'm open to engineering roles, management/sr management roles and even more growth oriented roles like sales engineering or product roles.
I snapped a picture of the back of my laptop before I returned it, as I thought it was a good reflection of my time at Amazon (and because it would be hard to share all my phone tool icons!)
