As many of you have probably seen in your feeds, there’s been waves of #bigtechlayoffs. Last week, HubSpot laid off 7% of its workforce, roughly 500+ employees. I unfortunately was included.
It’s taken me awhile to process and publicize the news. It hurts deeper than I expected. HubSpot was a place that welcomed my career and role change - from agency world and client services to SaaS/tech side and project management. It’s a place of community and inspiration - full of talented, intelligent, empathetic and driven colleagues. While my time there was brief, it grew me in ways that were invaluable - leaving me with a robust set of marketing and technical skills. I’m proud of the campaigns I managed, and grateful for the teams I worked with.
It’s hard to not know what’s next. The layoffs came 3 days before my cross-country move to California. However, I'm a big believer in the concept of things happening for you, not to you and will be reflecting on what I want in my career. It’s new and uncomfortable to lean into the unknown, but I’m excited for what’s next. All that said:
