It was a big summer for #highered, as the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action and Biden's student loan forgiveness plan. Recent polls show that people are increasingly losing faith in college. More recently, Paul Tough wrote an article called "Is college worth it?" for the The New York Times (also featured in the Daily podcast this week). In this month's post for Work in Progress, I reflect on why colleges still matter for economic mobility and why we're missing the mark on how we talk about "fixing" them.   🏫 TL;DR: The "wealth premium" for college is falling. This is because colleges are failing on either (or both) of the 2 things that matter: 1️⃣ strong (economic) outcomes 2️⃣accessibility to all. Institutions need to deliver both to regain American trust. And as the public (and problem solvers), we must recognize that the levers for each are different.   Take a read, welcome your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/eEuTv8m3 #highereducation #workforce #talent #futureofwork #education #wealthgap #inequality

One of the best choices I've made in my life was going back to school, especially the HKS MPA/ID (Masters in Public Administration in International Development) program. Applications are now open! Happy to chat with anyone considering, or interested in learning more.

If you are committed to global development and poverty reduction, have a strong academic record including economics and mathematics plus related work experience, consider applying to the MPA/ID Program at Harvard Kennedy School. The MPA/ID Program is an economics-centered, multidisciplinary program, integrating rigorous training in analytical and quantitative methods with an emphasis on policy outcomes informed by global perspectives.   Attend an upcoming info session and apply by December 1, 2023 at 12 p.m. ET. hks.harvard.edu/mpaid
