Highlights
I am still not comfortable recording myself in front of a camera. Have you been asked to do so as part of a job interview process?
Although I haven't been asked by HR, an event organizer asked me to create a one-minute self-introduction video, and give attendees an idea of what I will be discussing.
Since LinkedIn now encourages users to post videos, I went ahead to shoot the video. Here are the steps you can take to create yours too:
-
Script what you want to say.
-
Record your voice only. Play it back and edit your script until it sounds natural.
-
Decorate your backdrop with items mentioned in your script. If you run marathons, show your medals. If you enjoy art, display your favorite artwork.
-
Record your talking head video. A mobile phone camera is good enough.
-
Shoot some B-roll or use footage of you in action.
-
Edit your video.
-
Add captions
The preferred video format on LinkedIn is vertical (16:9), but my example is horizontal, as requested by event organisers, Christopher Locke and Isabela Balensiefer.
It take a few tries to become comfortable with shooting selfie videos. To start, you can record just your voice and use B-rolls without your talking head.

The best way to learn about a culture is through eating its local food. Please let me know which Indonesia dish I should try when in Jakarta.
The second best way to know a culture is to give a talk locally.
So I am super excited that Gagas Media has arranged a book event for the Bahasa Indonesia version of my book “Small Actions”.
Please join Lanny Wijaya (my co-author) and me, if you are in Jakarta on 30 Aug 2024.
Thank you Yoris Sebastian Nisiho for introducing Gagas media to us.
