In my third year at #Circularity24 hosted by GreenBiz Group, I'm again impressed by the amount of knowledge and real conversations with leading players in the Circular Economy space.

My favorite topic this time was "The Reconomy Workplace." Green Standards, a sustainable office decommissioning platform, led an insightful multi-disciplinary workshop on the "Circular Workplace" to raise awareness of the zero-waste office.

The amazing group of presenters including Microsoft and the US Green Building Council shared their ongoing practices in achieving zero waste and circularity in office spaces and furniture design. As Indeed Innovation is currently working on the EU-funded CEO Circular Economy Office project with 13 European partners, this global coalition resonated strongly with our own work.

My takeaways:

💡 While carbon is important, other metrics like waste, water, and ecosystem health are crucial for measuring progress towards circularity. (Alessandra Pistoia)

💡 Zero waste is a key component of a circular economy, and waste is ultimately a design problem. Certifications such as TRUE Certification for Zero Waste helps businesses measure and improve waste management and sustainable resource use. (Celeste McMickle)

💡 Circular innovation is about taking concrete actions that produce tangible results, as demonstrated by the quiet champions. Davies Office takes old furniture and remanufactures it to top-quality conditions resulting in cost savings and GHG reductions. Haworth's Zody chair alone achieves more than 40% reduction in CO2 emissions by integrating circular design principles. Then, the electronics recycling company Quantum Lifecycle Partners shows how effective responsible e-waste management can be achieved.

Thank you, Douglas Pilgrim LEED AP / WELL AP Katie Chapman, Stephanie McLarty, Amelia Sklaroff, Heidi Frasure and Green Standards, for this informative session. You are the real pioneers of Circular Economy!
