GETTING INTO TEACHING & CALL FOR EDTECH & WELLBEING STARTUPS & INVESTORS!
Over the last couple of months I made a big decision, which I am sharing here now - I decided that I would like to become a teacher. I have been working in Finance & VC for over 15 years, this is what I have identified myself with, I have been passionate about and what I feel I know quite well. I have recently started contemplating trying out something else despite all the uncertainties and question marks.
I have known for a long time that I am really interested in psychology, human behaviour and I naturally bond with children. Moreover, I feel energised when I am surrounded by children. I am inspired by their curiosity, their honesty and their wisdom. I am also a lifelong learner and I am where I am due to education, scholarships and some amazing teachers, who became role models to me.
I came to a point in life where I would like to make an impact and I feel teaching is one of the best paths I can take. Since I shared this news with friends & family, I have received very positive and very skeptical feedback. I am aware that teaching can be challenging and rewarding at the same time. But I am up for it and I hope I can prove the skeptical voices wrong!
This does not mean that I am done with VC! I love many aspects of this profession including working with different stakeholders, being a Board Member, negotiating, following the latest tech & innovation trends and problem solving. Where I personally see room for improvement is:
- providing a more family friendly atmosphere, which comes with mutual trust, transparency and (some) flexibility,
- and more diversity in decision making - not just being listened to, but being actually heard.
CALL: On this journey, I would love to hear about / meet startups and investors in the EDTECH and WELLBEING (i.e. children’s, parents’, teachers’) space. I am especially interested in solutions that make learning more engaging and fun, help to bridge learning gaps, address special learning needs and care about mental health. Please feel free to reach out to me via Linkedin!
I set myself to this journey with the following quote and I am looking forward to seeing how I can find the best of the two worlds - the one that I already know and the one that I am yet to get to know.
‘Success isn’t about how much money you make. It’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.’ /Michelle Obama/
