A wonderful time speaking and giving a Cinematography Workshop at ibrandconnect LLC Iftar Phototalk 2024 in association with Canon EMEA and BurJuman Mall. Though I consider myself a writer/director first and foremost, I’ve had to be my own cinematographer for a number of my short films so it was important to learn the visual language of cinema even when I did work with a cinematographer.
What different shot sizes, aspect ratios, lighting choices and colors evoke in the audience is crucial information to know as a filmmaker much more than the technicals of what different dials on a camera do, because filmmaking is about intention and evoking a feeling from the audience for what’s best for your story. That’s what I focused my workshop on - the why and not the how.
Thank you for having me! 🎥
A wonderful night yesterday at the red carpet Abu Dhabi premiere of DUNE: PART TWO. An honor to walk the red carpet and watch a breathtaking cinematic masterpiece in full IMAX with some of the cast as well as one of my favorite directors Denis Villeneuve in attendance. When you see work like this on the big screen, you realise cinema is truly alive when in the hands of people who care.
Also in awe of Abu Dhabi Film Commission, Epic Films and the entire Abu Dhabi unit cast and crew that were involved in the visual stunning sequences shot in Liwa desert. Proud of all of you guys for your hard work. It’s certainly right there on screen.
Thank you Warner Brothers and Visit Abu Dhabi for the invite!
