Highlights
Today marks my 5 year Hashi-versary at HashiCorp. The reasons I joined are not uncommon - I needed a good job. I had just completed training in product management from Product School New York. A school which had me taking a Lyft and then a 4-hour train ride from DC to New York City every weekend. Class start time? 9am sharp.
I joined HashiCorp as a contract project manager to help the Events team manage their multiple events at various stages of development. Within a couple months I joined full time. Then Covid changed my world. In-person events were now a no go. I was faced with the harsh reality that my role was now something completely different than what I signed up for. I had to very quickly learn how to run a fully virtual event while figuring out the madness that came with having two kids schooling from home. It was a rocky start, but as I regained my footing I dove head first into learning everything there was to know about producing an event - from managing speakers and session content, to collaborating with our vendor Dexper to build a stellar virtual event platform, to building out a marketing and comms plan, to figuring out ways to keep the attention of an audience now stuck at home, behind the desk, with a million distractions. We were building the tracks as we were going and what a ride it was. After our first successful virtual event, HashiConf Digital 2020, one attendee commented “while everyone else is learning to build a bike, HashiCorp built a Ferrari”. That became our team motto. Fast forward to today, we are back into the world of in-person events with all its planning madness but with the wisdom that can only come from a pandemic. Always be prepared with contingency plans. Hybrid events is our new world and I don’t imagine that will change any time soon.
Over the past 5 years, I have been fortunate enough to work alongside a team unlike any other - intelligent, talented, creative, kind, and get-shit-done kind of people.
My job has taken me around the world doing work that I enjoy. I’ve learned that how you treat others matters; building a product from the end user’s perspective makes the difference; and the wisdom to know when to fail fast and move on is gold. While the work has helped me grow and has always kept me on my toes, what has made me stay all these years was the people.
So, to all those who helped me along this journey at HashiCorp these past 5 years.. thank you! From the depths of my heart, thank you. What a ride it has been!
