Fiona Hackney

Dr. Fiona Hackney is a renowned scholar known for her expertise in design history, crafting, creating-making, health and well-being, gender studies, media, and print studies.

She actively engages in research and collaborations with academics, community groups, and third sector agencies, focusing on themes like agency, culture, community identity, media, everyday creativity, history promotion, community engagement, and social and cultural capital enhancement.

As a co-convener of the Material and Visual Culture research group at Falmouth University, she explores creativity, health, wellbeing, participatory and collaborative working.

Dr. Hackney has led and been involved in various funded research projects, such as Co-creating CARE and CARM, under the AHRC Connected Communities funding strand, emphasizing creative-making, crafts, well-being, and community learning.

She is a seasoned reviewer and conducts peer reviews for the AHRC, contributing to the academic community's growth and evaluation.

Her upcoming publications include 'Quiet Activism and the New Amateur: The Power of Home and Hobby Crafts' in Design and Culture, and a monograph on popular women's magazines.

Additionally, she serves as the Award Leader for MA C20th art and design: histories & theories at University College Falmouth, showcasing her leadership in education and academia.
