At some point in 2023, did your Boss/CEO/Board excitedly talk to you about generative AI for your supply chain? Feels like the blockchain hype of a few years ago. Or RFID before that. So, is genAI for supply chain a fad or a game changer?
AI. Blockchain. RFID. It feels like Groundhog Day... How do we know if an emerging technology is ready for prime time or just a giant waste of time?
✅ Because if it is ready, we don't want to miss out. We want to use it and create a competitive advantage. ❌ But if it's too early stage or just hype, we want to stay far away from it. How do we uncover and prepare for integration issues before committing to a new technology solution?
😵 Most of us are dealing with dozens of ERP instances due to our company's M&A activities. 🙄 And there is rarely any data consistency across all these disparate systems. How do we show quick ROI wins with a small-scale POC so that our stakeholders continue to fund our new initiative?
💰 It seems so much easier to get approval for a $250 million ERP implementation, than a couple $100k to try out an emerging technology solution. 📈 Even when these new solutions enable supply chain to become a growth driver, not just cutting costs. Exciting times for supply chain but still lots of open questions.
👉 If someone tells you that they have all the answers, run the other way. 👉 No single solution provider, consultant, or thought leader has figured it out. 👉 All we know, is that we need to keep experimenting. Try out new ways. Quickly iterate. Find out what works and what doesn't. And most importantly, collaborate. Share our experiences. Cross-enterprise. In a safe and trusted environment. Together will figure out AI and all other cutting-edge technologies to come!
