Highlights
I got the best job rejection email I’ve ever seen. 🤯
I’m about two months into an earnest job search, after embracing the past year to reset. (More in a future post on how scaling Trivia For The Culture events extended my package into a creative sabbatical. ✍🏾 )
I haven’t been oblivious or impervious to the tough reality of today’s market - bleak stories from job seekers pour into my LinkedIn feed daily.
This particular position checked many boxes for me: ✅ a mission-driven, innovative org, ✅ a strategic, creative marketing role and ✅ open to remote work and/or hybrid from my Chicago location - a rare trifecta these days. I had a great 1-hour conversation with the CEO and looked forward to the next stage.
While that wasn’t the case, the kindness of her update last month stood out in a sea of generic impersonality - no automated messages from no-reply inboxes or obvious Gen AI here. While the news was disappointing, it felt good to be treated like a human being.
I completed this process supportive of the organization while assured of my abilities as I seek my next role. (Speaking of which, know anyone looking for marketing talent or even a great person I should connect with? Let me know! 🙌🏾)
For those currently hiring, you can be the bright spot in someone’s day, week, month and that extra bit of motivation to keep going.
And if you’re looking for your next role, people are still out there who’ll recognize your talents and treat you with the dignity you deserve, regardless of market forces or application outcomes.

Nah, I’m just playing - I’d see myself out like Cole if I ever dabbled in that type of LinkedIn content, lol.
