Ghenady Meirson

Ghenady Meirson was a renowned music professional and educator who made significant contributions to Russian vocal repertoire and opera in the United States.12 Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Meirson graduated from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied piano.1

In 1982, Meirson wrote a singer's handbook titled "Do Sing in Russian" and began specializing in Russian vocal repertoire.1 He founded Russian Opera Workshop in 2011, a top-tier independent summer program based in Philadelphia that attracts aspiring opera singers and professionals from across North America and Europe.2

Meirson served as a faculty member at both the Academy of Vocal Arts and Curtis Institute of Music.1 He was known for his expertise in Russian opera and vocal music, preparing many artists for performances and helping organizations such as The Philadelphia Orchestra and Opera Philadelphia.2

Sadly, Ghenady Meirson passed away in May 2021 after a long battle with cancer.3 He was 63 years old at the time of his death and left behind a lasting legacy in the world of Russian opera and vocal music education.2
