From a Dad’s Diary
Today, Dad received an unexpected critical meeting invite, which clashed with his kid's piano concert. As usual, an internal battle began between his heart and mind.
The mind argued:
- Missing this meeting could hurt your career.
- Your wife is already attending the concert, so one parent is there.
- There will be many concerts in the future, so missing one isn’t a big deal.
- You can make it up to your kid with a trip to Disneyland, an expensive gift, or a long drive.
The heart simply said:
- Go to the concert because your presence matters to your kid.
Surprisingly, the heart won. Dad requested to be excused from the meeting and attended the concert.
Years later, his kid’s teacher called, saying his kid won first prize in an essay about relationships. The teacher mentioned that his kid wrote about how you prioritized her concert over a work meeting in her essay. Dad was amazed that his child still remembered it. That day, he felt like the winner of the universe!
We often worry that children don’t listen to us. Instead, we should remember they always observe us. We can always find a better job or title, but we only have a few precious people in our lives. It's better to prioritize them over work because we work to live, not the other way around. 😊
