So why are Mr & Mrs Wells standing in front of this stunning portrait of King Charles III and why am I posting on this matter…
As an aside, the portrait of King Charles III is amazing in real life and according to Philip Mould, is now probably one of the most famous portraits in the world. The portrait is currently hanging at the gallery of Philip Mould & Company (https://philipmould.com/) in Pall Mall (go and see if you have a chance)...
And to the point of this post, Philip is one of the patrons of a small charity called Action for M.E. and despite its small size and budget, Action for M.E. is one of the only ME charities in the UK, providing care for ME sufferers, while working tirelessly to promote research into this horrible disease. We were at the dinner as a guest of one my mentors and former clients in the travel sector John Donaldson whose son, now in his 40’s has been suffering from ME since he was a teenager. John is about to take on a significant fundraising effort for Action for M.E. later this year.
The dinner, led by CEO Sonya Chowdhury, with guest speaker Sajid Javid MP (former Health Secretary) was educational, fascinating, sad and full of hope. It was not a fundraiser, it was part of the educational and awareness process. The disease is little understood, effects many hundreds of thousands of people in the UK and the impact on them, their families, friends and carers, can be devasting.
During the evening, John talked about an upcoming fundraising effort that he is going to start soon. For a disease that is often invisible, not much talked about or understood, or at its worst, still categorised as some sort of “yuppy flu”, it struck us that the most determined drivers for change and fundraising, will be those people who have been impacted by ME – the friends and families of those who suffer from this horrible disease. So my ask, have a look at their website (https://lnkd.in/eEgV_tZ2), and also, if you are a friend or family of an ME patient, and you know me, please DM me, or if you do not know me, please DM Sonya Chowdhury or myself.
John has some big targets for his fundraising and is going to need some significant support!

Skift global forum #skiftlive just finishing here in New York. A great event with high quality content, showcasing some of the best in #travel and #traveltech. Over the last few days, some very interesting themes from a number of the leaders in the industry - impact of AI is top of many agendas, investment and M&A in the sector is very topical, but ultimately, however big or small the organisation is, the holy grail always comes down to giving your customer the best experience…
