Amazing to see our new paper out!
This is the 1st of what I am sure will be many impactful papers on the power of #PlantBasedFood treating #FoodInsecurity and promoting #Health.
We observed healthy weight improvements in children receiving plant-based food packages from the #MGHRevereFoodPantry, reducing rates of high BMI in the population studied. There was also a dose effect, meaning that the receipt of more plant-based food was associated with more weight loss! This is a powerful finding demonstrating that #FoodIsMedicine for patients with food insecurity, which is an alarmingly high number of Americans.
This was was an all-star effort by Allison Wu, MD, MPH. I am deeply grateful for this partnership with the research team led by Lauren Fiechtner and Elsie Taveras, MD, MPH.
And a huge shoutout to the fabulous MGH Revere team that worked so hard during the pandemic to help families in need.
