As of this past Tuesday, I am now PMP Certified! I have thought about taking this test for a while, but it was tough to commit the time to study and the money to pay for the required course. I am thankful for:
- Equifax for having a great professional development program for its employees that gave me access to the required course. This course also provided access to two different practice test simulators, which were key for practicing and confirming I was ready to take the real test.
- My manager, Scott, for supporting me taking the course, and for the knowledge that has helped me manage the R&D division more effectively (even before I passed the test).
- My fellow The Terry Foundation Scholar, Tricia Koshy, MPH, PMP, who gave me some great studying tips.
- My wife, Jennifer, who supported me while I had to study long hours!
- Project Management Institute's algorithm that identified my “above target” passing score, because I never want to take that test again! 😁
- The various YouTube videos available, but the two tips that really helped me the most on a high level were both from Andrew Ramdayal:
- You have to schedule a test date so that you will be fully committed to studying. Before I did that, I kept telling myself that I would schedule it “when I am ready,” but I was not “getting ready” efficiently.
- Get a notebook and write it down! For my style of learning (visual), this really helped, because I am not going to read 400-500 pages multiple times. I am going to take notes/summarize as I go, then review the notes afterwards to help solidify it in my mind.
Cheers to professional development!
