James Clarke

James Clarke is a seasoned technology leader with a remarkable 20-year career trajectory. Over the years, he has engaged with startups and established enterprises in senior engineering and leadership capacities, consistently delivering coveted innovative products that resonate with customers. Prior to his current role at Microsoft, he held diverse product management positions at Avid Technology, a prominent name in Digital Media.

At Avid Technology, James showcased his entrepreneurial spirit by co-founding ROOT6 Limited in 2007, where he assumed the dual role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and head of product engineering. His tenure at ROOT6 was marked by the successful incubation and launch of groundbreaking digital media encoding and workflow products. The company's promising journey culminated in its acquisition by Jigsaw24 Ltd in 2017.

Transitioning to Microsoft in 2006, James initially served as a Program Manager on the Expression team, focusing on developing tools for designers. He later transitioned to the Windows Platform team, assuming a leadership position as a Program Manager (PM) on the Windows Composition Engine team. In this role, he spearheaded the development of a unified animation and effects engine for Windows UI across various platforms including PC, Xbox, HoloLens, and Phone.

James Clarke stands out not only as a software architect and application developer but also as a senior engineering leader with a specialization in digital media, user experience platforms, and graphics. His projects reflect a blend of passion, enthusiasm, and a deep-rooted customer-centric approach. He is a proponent of collaboration, skill leveraging, and the nurturing of talent through mentorship.

James pursued his academic endeavors at notable institutions, acquiring a Master of Science (MSc) in Telematics from the University of Surrey, a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) in Music and Computing from Oxford Brookes University, and undertook studies at Marlborough College.

Currently, James Clarke excels in his role as a Principal PM Architect at Microsoft, where his wealth of experience and expertise continue to drive impactful technological advancements.
