CEO and Cofounder @ Stepwise (Techstars '23) | Enabling the Energy Transition

Jane Chen is the Co-Founder and CEO of Stepwise, a company focused on making residential electrification more accessible and affordable. Stepwise addresses challenges in outdated electrical infrastructure, particularly those that arise when installing EV chargers, heat pumps, or water heaters. The company develops smart distributed devices to optimize existing electric panels, eliminating the need for costly upgrades. Jane co-founded Stepwise after observing inefficiencies in electrification while running a residential EV charging installation platform during her time as an MBA student at MIT Sloan School of Management.123

Before Stepwise, Jane founded Artio, a company helping homeowners install green technologies like EV chargers. She has also worked at Strategy&, Hangzhou Ao Neng Power Supply Equipment Co., Ltd., and other organizations. Jane holds an MBA from MIT Sloan, a BS from The Wharton School, and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.12

🔌 The Future of Residential Energy: Why Load Management Matters

As U.S. households switch to electric appliances, electricity demand is set to rise. Wisconsin (https://lnkd.in/gR9UwAmR) recently became the first state to offer home energy rebates through the Inflation Reduction Act, highlighting the urgent need for smarter energy infrastructure.

I am writing a 3 part series to explore the importance of residential load management—key to balancing energy demand and avoiding costly upgrades.

Let me know what you think about it!🌱⚡

I'm thrilled that the electric panel problem is gaining more awareness - not only the $100B price tag to upgrade every home, but also the fact that upgrades are NOT necessary. Excited to see more solutions on the market between new smart panels being released and clever point solutions that are evolving, but we still need to do more with less at increasing speeds.

Austin Hunt, Ethan Brewer, and I started Stepwise to build a whole home solution that is practical for the everyday consumer while fitting seamlessly into the electrician journey. Follow us at Stepwise to learn about how our new Home Energy Management System (HEMS) can play a role through our modular, smart, and cost effective approach.
