Highlights
Had a nice time last week at gener8tor's showcase (demo day) for their Reno-Tahoe accelerator program. Great to see the startup community of mentors and investors come out to support this group of founders and their companies. Danny deLaveaga and Jessica Halsey did an incredible job with MADE Apparel, Standard Measure Technologies, Phone2, Air Corp, and Drain Drawer Pots. Excited for their growth and learned that two founders are permanently relocating to Reno!
Photos include Danny DeLaveaga, Jessica Halsey, Prentice Keller (partner at gener8tor), Dustin Butcher, Cheryl LeBarr, and Clyde Prestowitz of MADE, and Jen Gurecki of Coalition Snow.
Reno Startup Week has been a huge success for the area, bringing together startups, investors, and aspiring entrepreneurs.
In addition to having fun moderating a incredible panel with Pete Koomen (Co-founder and former CTO of Optimizely) Jeff Saling (ED and Co-founder of StartUpNV and various funds) and Danny deLaveaga (Managing Director at gener8tor), I also got to watch friends I admire in a panel on VC. Beau Laskey at SVB Capital, Leah Hendricks at Advantage Capital, Kirsten Suddath at Next Frontier Capital, and Matthew Nordby at Flume Ventures, moderated by the witty attorney to many startups, Craig Macy.
And the Elevate Reno pitch event was so good with the quality of startups. Two highlights were Anson Whitmer, PhD with his app Mental for Men’s Mental health that is so needed right now and doing well, and 🇺🇦 Maksym Lushpenko at Brokee, one of gener8tor‘s alumni companies.
A huge congrats to Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) and the greater organizing committee for putting this week of 40+ events together.
Btw, I think the word is out. So many from the Bay Area tech scene have moved to Reno and Tahoe.
