🌺 Muriel Miura 🌺 is a trailblazer of Hawaiʻi regional cuisine, author of ~30 cookbooks, teacher to Sam Choy and Alan Wong, and so much more. She hosted Julia Child at an event for the Honolulu Gas Co., circa ~1970s. Learn more about Muriel in this profile I wrote for the Zentoku Foundation: https://lnkd.in/g6XetYHM

A Nisei (second generation Japanese American), Muriel was a home economist teaching people how to cook with gas appliances! She rose to become one of the first Hawaiʻi locals to achieve a top position at the company.

Single mother, cook, educator, and entrepreneur—the more I learned about her life from her daughter Shari, the more I marveled at her grit and heart. If you love Hawaiʻi cooking, I think you'll love Muriel.
