Hi all! I'm looking for some great examples of how you or someone else teases their newsletter the day or so before they send it that adds value?
You know, more than saying "My newsletter comes out tomorrow."
Anybody you follow or have tried that has gotten signups by previewing?
I'm teaching a non-fiction book marketing class and want to give a couple of shout-outs.
Thanks!!
Here's what I would change about how I marketed Why Bother? Discover the Desire for What's Next. Granted, I sold 12K copies in all formats which is great for a self-pubbed book but I had good reason to think I would sell 30K.
I would have...
🥇 Started earlier. Six months was not enough time to build my marketing buzz and I knew it. After all, this was my 7th book launch. But I hurried the process.
🥇 Taken a vacation between writing and marketing. I went right into full marketing mode because I knew I was behind. Marketing a book is hard for even the most seasoned authors because it's so vulnerable.
🥇 Listened to my intuition. I wanted to recreate the magic of my first book tour with The Woman's Comfort Book where I met so many amazing readers that I'm still in touch with. I knew I shouldn't sink resources into a book tour because book tours sell few books but I didn't listen to myself...
🥇 Then the pandemic struck, everything shut down and it was hard to pivot my marketing plans because I had spent so much energy and time on the in-person plans.
🥇 Activated my network sooner. Authors' networks are the most underutilized way to build a following for your book. Anjanette “AJ” Harper and I will be doing a whole class on how to use your network skillfully during our course How To Market your Book While Writing it - we start June 12th!
🥇 Spent less energy on my street team. They were great and reviewed the heck out of the book on Amazon but I made the process too complicated and time-intensive.
AJ and I can't wait to share everything we've learned from our own book marketing experiences and the hundreds of books we've worked on for clients.
I hope you can join our course!
