Jessica Townsend

Jessica Townsend is a seasoned academic leader with nearly 19 years of experience at Olin College, holding various leadership roles in undergraduate education, faculty development, and strategic management.

She specializes in academic program development, curricular innovation, and industry engagement in engineering education, with expertise in leading change, fiscal management, accreditation, and team building.

Jessica's technical interest lies in experimental thermal-fluids, specifically in the development and characterization of nanofluids for thermal management applications.

She has industry experience in air-breathing and rocket propulsion, having worked as a gas turbine performance engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand and as a visiting engineer at Blue Origin, a leading commercial spaceflight company.

Jessica holds a Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from MIT, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Davis, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UMass Amherst.

Throughout her career, Jessica has contributed to the development of innovative pedagogies, courses, and curricula in areas such as thermal-fluids, senior design, and first-year engineering.
