Founder, Positive Coaching Alliance

Jim Thompson is the founder of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit organization established in October 1998 with the mission to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience.1 He has been serving as a Board Member at Santa Clara University Institute of Sports Law and Ethics since April 2013.1

Prior to founding PCA, Thompson worked as the Director of Public & Global Management Programs at Stanford Graduate School of Business from 1987 to 1998, and briefly held a marketing staff position at Hewlett-Packard from 1986 to 1987.1

In recognition of his contributions to sports ethics, Thompson and PCA received the inaugural ETHOS Award for Ethics in Sports from Santa Clara University's Institute of Sports Law and Ethics in May 2013.1 The award acknowledged Thompson and PCA's exemplary work in preparing youth-sports coaches to handle ethical dilemmas and promoting positive character development through sports.1
