Jingwan (Cynthia) Lu is a visionary leader in the field of machine learning, with a focus on AI-assisted content creation tools.

Currently heading an applied research organization at Adobe, Lu is instrumental in developing the Adobe Firefly family of GenAI models, including training Adobe's first large-scale foundational model in 2022.

Lu's efforts culminated in the successful rollout of the web-based product Firefly in early 2023, which features innovative image generation models and powers Adobe Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Expand features.

Her pioneering work with generative models like GANs in Adobe Research resulted in the introduction of neural filters, notably the Smart Portrait feature, positioning Adobe as a key player in AI innovation and earning recognition as one of the top 10 most innovative companies in AI.

Lu's educational background includes a PhD in Computer Science from Princeton University, a non-degree exchange program in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Having held various internships at Adobe, including in the Procedural Imaging Group and the Creative Technology Lab, Lu has a diverse professional experience that also includes roles as a Research Assistant at HKUST and a Software Engineer Intern at Electronic Arts.
